Cocoons, 2019 (yarn and balloons)

is an encompassing experience for the viewer, where one has no choice but to touch the art suspended from ceiling to floor. Viewers are able to be up close and personal with the Cocoons, touching and taking in the environment. With this installation I highlight the simple expressive object as well as focusing on the development of an experience. Through the expressive object, yarn and balloons, the artist and the active observer encounter each other through the material and mental environment. Having the yarn light and colorful creates a juxtaposition between the dense looking black balloons, making them look as if they are defying gravity. The mere quantity of them allows the substance to be evoked in such a way that it can enter into the experiences of others and enable them to have more intense and more fully rounded out experiences of their own.
