The Steel Yard Fountain, 2022 (found objects, water, pump)
is an ephemeral sculpture where interactions of water and metal produce a conversation. The relationship between these two elements continues to evolve, erode, and produce rust over the course of the exhibition. We know that time has passed when something has changed. Things embody their own time. They are accretions of time, each inflection of form and material articulating a distinct moment. Our bodies are no different. While we measure time linearly the use of a fountain takes the viewer a step back, observing an infinite cycle. A fountain symbolizes life, truth, change, and water. The subtle changes between the water and metal point out the ambiguous and sometimes conflicted relationships that we have with each other and the world in which we live.
